The mosque derives its name from the phrase Banya Bashi, which means many baths. The mosque is famous for its large dome, diameter 15m, and the minaret. The mosque is located in the center of Plovdiv and was built on the site of Plovdiv cathedral church "St. Petka Tarnovo soon after the conquest of the city by he Ottoman army (1363 - 1364). At the time of Sultan Murad II (1421 - 1451) the old building was demolished and, in its place, erected a mosque today, called Ulu Cuma mosque - the main Friday Mosque. Dzhumayata is one of the oldest Ottoman religious buildings in the Balkans. It is among the largest - an imposing rectangular building, whose salon has a size 33 on 27 meters. The construction it shows the influence of the Byzantine and Christian architecture and engineering - two layers of bricks masonry after each layer of stone.Unlike the later-domed mosques, Cuma is called.
